Since the dawn of time, man has always exemplified the spirit of camaraderie, volunteerism and cooperation. These aptitudes have become very helpful in our life-long quest for continued excellence and unified development in a holistic aspect.

In the world of the academic sector, the most basic activity done in the beginning of the school year is the conduct of the “Brigada Eskwela” – an event which unifies the internal and external stakeholders of every school in the entire country to work hand-in-hand in a harmonious atmosphere. It unifies all people from different walks of life in order to prepare the school environment for the opening of classes. In my stay in the Filipino Department of the Masbate National Comprehensive High School, I have witnessed that it has always been an active and fervent participation in the said activity. This is evident in the turn-out of volunteers on an annual basis. Parents and community servants from different areas come in order to help in preparing the school grounds for the incoming school year.

Through the years, the enthusiastic and vibrant cooperation of people from different public and private sectors and individuals coming to our school becomes a monumental definition of the Filipino trait known as “bayanihan”. This strengthens the fact that bringing quality education to the students is truly a two-way street that requires the cooperation of the teachers, parents and all those in the community to work as one and deliver the goods to the Filipino learners. “Pagkakaisa” is also exemplified in the sense that some working parents leave their obligations momentarily to participate in the said event. Other homemakers also lend a hand to extend their help in assuring a safe environment to the academic world their children are living in. Lastly, the word “sakripisyo” can also be observed as many participating agencies work beyond their means and duties in order to give their share in sense of helping the school. This is not just in MNCHS for it can also be seen in other elementary and secondary schools in the Division of Masbate City.

This year though, the situation has changed into becoming more complex and difficult. We are facing a pandemic that has affected our social interaction with the people around us. These trying times have tested once again our resiliency and faith in terms of our “pakikipagkapwa tao”; but, with the coming of the New Normal, Masbatenos will never falter in showing their support to the Brigada Eskwela, which primarily aims to inspire and motivate everyone to maintain the unceasing back up we have given every beginning of school year season, for the betterment of the school and the welfare of our children.

Today, we are needed more by the people around us. It is rather fitting that whatever we can give to one another will be beneficial in our quest for continuous knowledge and harmonious living in this world.

We never fail to give our vow to show our commitment and support to the mandate and celebration of the Brigada Eskwela of the Department of Education for we firmly believe that when “WE ALL WORK AS ONE, WE ALL HEAL AS ONE”.
