cleanandgreenseminar The Department of Environment and Natural Resources in cooperation with the Seawell Express conducted a one- day seminar for all science teachers about empowering the youth for a clean and green ASEAN last Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at the Amancio Aguilar Elementary School Conference Hall with the theme “Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care”.

The Masbate City Division sent one (1) participant per school (elementary and secondary) including private institution. The event was actively participated by the fifty (50) participants who came from different elementary and secondary schools.

The activity started with an invocation and followed by the opening remarks of the Masbate PENRO Officer-In-Charge Management Service Division, Mr. Jose Ferwelo. Engr. Nanette A. Tidon- OIC on Solid Waste Management Section discussed RA 6969 and Toxic Substances and Hazardous and Nuclear Wastes Control Act of 1990. The Asst. Provincial Environment Management Officer, Masbate Province Mr. Jerwin Cardino also discussed the 8749/ Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999 and Anti-Smoke Belching Campaign. Ms. Jacinth E. Racca, Coordinator, Environment Education and Information Section talked about R.A 9729 or the Climate Change Act of 2009.

In the afternoon session, Engr. Nanette A. Tidon discussed R.A 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 and the Eco Savers Program while Ms. Jacinth E. Racca talked about R.A 9512 or the Environmental Awareness and Education Act and the Search for Sustainable and Eco- friendly Schools. Questions and queries were entertained during the open forum.

Certificates of Participation were given to all the participants at the end of the discussion. Dr. Jemnah A. Macabe EPS- I for Science was tasked to give the closing remarks wherein she emphasized the worth of attending the abovementioned seminar.
