What is the National Greening Program (NGP)?
Executive Order 26 describes the NGP as a program which converges the efforts of all sectors of the society to “plant some 1.5 billion trees covering about 1.5 million hectares for a period of six (6) years from 2011 to 2016, in lands of the public domain.”
These lands include forestlands, mangrove and protected area, ancestral domains, civil and military reservations and urban areas.
The NGP is rationalized through EO 26, signed by President Benigno S. Aquino III in February 24, 2011. NGP is a government priority which has five (5) major goals: Food Security, Poverty Alleviation, Environmental Conservation, Waste Management and Climate Mitigation and Adaptation. In the EO, the roles of the various agencies were stipulated to ensure that the deliverables are carried out. Therefore, the key, is the active and sustained involvement of everyone.
