Solid Waste Management has been an issue for how many years in the Philippines. Are we aware of what is happening around us? Do we ever think that there is something happening wrong with our doings when it comes to environmental protection? We’re staying in school for how many years to be a good, responsible and productive citizen of our country. Our government has tried to eradicate the non-stoppable garbage in our country. There were a lot of existing laws implemented for years but still garbage has always been a major problem. There is a saying “two heads are better than one” and I believe that many hands are better than two. We don’t need too much allocation of budget for the solid waste management because if everybody cares for Mother Earth, we can make garbage into usable things that we’ve never thought.

It has been observed in schools, streets and other places that garbage can still be seen. We have been provided with trash cans wherein we should put our trash but we’re not using it for its purpose; instead we make our surroundings as trash can. I am really dismayed of what I have observed every time I’m attending occasions in schools. After the program try to look at the place, it’s a mess, plastic wrappers and a lot more are scattered everywhere. And who do we expect to get all those trash; the janitor? It’s not only the janitors who are affected of what kind of wrath of nature we are experiencing now. Let us be responsible of those candy wrappers, plastics etc., which come to our hands.

We have to do something for this problem and be responsible enough with our own trash. Have trash can for biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. Have compost pit at your home and do some recycling. Always remember the principle of 3R’s-Reuse, Reduce, Recycle. Those above mentioned will do changes to our environment.
